Bush Luxury at its best: Zarafa Camp

Are you seeking a safari with exclusivity, indulgence, great game viewing, expert guiding and personalised service? Then Zarafa Camp is the place for you.

Why is this one of our favourite camps in Africa?

This stunning camp, located on the private Selinda Reserve, links the Okavango Delta with Chobe National Park. Renowned for its remarkable concentration of wildlife including an awe inspiring list of predators, the Selinda Reserve has been named one of the greatest game viewing regions in the world. Here, elephants gather in front of verandahs and the sounds of the bush will lull you to sleep.

What are the origins of the camp?

The camp was created by two safari enthusiasts, National Geographic photographers Dereck and Beverly Joubert, who discovered the Zibadianja Lagoon while gathering footage for one of their many wildlife films. After a long day of shooting they settled under a magnificent African ebony tree and fell asleep gazing out at the lagoon. Today guests can relax under that same canopy of branches and fall asleep to the calls of the wild.

Intimate luxury

This intimate camp designed with exclusivity and privacy at its core, offers just four canvas suites, each decorated in traditional safari style. The suites are prime position on the forest’s edge, rimming the shore of the floodplains and savannah. While relaxing on your private verandah with exceptional views of the lagoon, enjoy a cool drink or take a dip in your own plunge pool.

Your bedroom, boasting a four postered bed, connects to a full lounge and open bathroom complete with al fresco showers and clawfoot copper tubs. Polished wooden floors lined with rugs and topped with leather furniture and wooden chests create an early settler feel in all suites. All suites are equipped with personal Swarovski binoculars, a high-powered Nikon telescope for stargazing, a blazing gas fire for cool nights and a Canon 5D SLR camera to capture every treasured moment. The main area of the camp is encompassed by a large marquee covering the lounge, dining room, bar and library which are all exquisitely decorated in the same early settler style as the suites.

Luxury and bespoke experiences are at the heart of Zarafa camp. Embark on a thrilling open-vehicle safari to seek out some of Africa’s largest elephant and buffalo herds. Float across the shimmering waters of the Zibadianja Lagoon by boat, observing hippos and diverse birdlife while sipping on a refreshing cocktail. Or stroll across the floodplains with an expert guide and learn about the complexities of northern Botswana. The end of the day can be enjoyed sharing safari stories around an intimate lagoon-side dinner table, lit by candles and the bright stars of the African sky. Enjoy mouth-watering meals prepared by dedicated chefs who have a knack of knowing just what you need, even if you don’t!
