With the Lion King released at the cinemas yesterday, the question begs to be answered, where exactly does Simba live?
Disney doesn’t explicitly specify the location of Simba and his family but the phrase ‘Hakuna Matata’ is Swahili for ‘no problems’. And Swahili is a language spoken in east African countries such as Kenya and Tanzania. So is it Kenya or Tanzania?
Most likely Kenya. The producers of the original Lion King film, back in 1991, sent a team of animators to Hell’s Gate National Park in Kenya to research the region’s landscapes and wildlife. So while the location isn’t specified, it’s entirely reasonable to assume the landscapes and animals are based on the flora and fauna of Kenya.

The 2019 release of the new Lion King is bound to bring a lot of attraction back to Africa and real life Africa safari adventures.
